Instead of a simple "delete," she made a more complex decision. She was not going to delete this e-mail, but rather delete her own memory of it. The technology in place was simply a part of the greater system of "systems" at play. It is odd to think that an email with no factual or logical basis can have such an effect on a brain.

In reality, the person who wrote the e-mail had no idea what he was doing. All he knew was that he wanted to get Leigh's attention in some way. He sent out an email for this reason and then decided that he didn't want a response from her.

He just wanted her to remember the e-mail and then remember that she didn't reply to it.
